Island Oasis / Arabian Peninsula
Hosted by
The Site / Dubai Waterfront
The island is located towards the southern end of the Emirate and City Dubai. The strategic location of the island at the southern tip of Dubai also offers proximity to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Part of a larger development called the “Dubai Waterfront” by Dubai based real estate developer Nakheel, the island is situated next to the Palm Jebel Ali, one of the manmade islands along the coast of Dubai.
Adjacent to the Expo 2020 site and near Jebel Ali port, one the world largest man-made harbours, and Jebel Ali Free zone as well as the Al Maktoum international Airport; the competition island is part of a larger archipelago of manmade island, shaped as a crescent.
In March 2021, the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan was presented. This new master plan aims to improve the quality of life, by increasing green and leisure areas, in addition to public parks and by offering more areas for people to exercise. Further the Dubai 2040 plan designates 5 areas of development, with the competition location being part of the area 4 which is designated for Expo 2020 and acting as the international gateway for exhibitions and events.
